Tribute to Jackie – A Heart of Gold and a Legacy That Will Forever Inspire - A Charity Sponsoring Children's Education in Kenya

Destiny Children and Destiny Garden School (DGS) would like to honour and remember the incredible life and selfless contributions of Jackie, a cherished friend, mentor, and a cornerstone in the history of DGS.

Jackie joined the DGS project in May 2009, just a month after its birth. For six months, from May to November 2009, she dedicated her time, energy, and resources to a little-known school in a small village near Mombasa, providing an education for disadvantaged children in the area. Instead of taking a luxury cruise around the world, Jackie chose to invest her heart in a project that would transform countless lives—a decision that reflects her boundless humility and kindness.

From the very beginning, Jackie played a pivotal role in shaping DGS. She supported Masikah, the school administrator, with bookkeeping and helped Jacob establish safe and comfortable accommodation for future volunteers. Jackie mentored the founders of DGS, Jacob and Brenda when there was nothing but a plot of land and a cashew nut tree, setting the foundation for what DGS has become today.

Her contributions went far beyond mentorship. Jackie personally funded staff salaries, the rental of four classrooms, and the purchase of desks, chairs, blackboards, and uniforms for our children. She introduced many supporters to DGS who have since become a vital part of the DGS community.

Jackie’s dedication extended well beyond her initial visit. Together with her son Gareth, she continued to support DGS over the years, including sponsoring children through their education. Her passion and unwavering support inspired others to join the cause. It was her vision and encouragement of her sister Judy that led to the creation of the UK charity Destiny Children, which now sustains the sponsorship program and raises funds to keep the school running.

Jackie was not only a driving force behind DGS’s development but also a matriarch and a pillar of hope. Her warmth, focus, and commitment were unmatched. Her work and legacy are deeply woven into the fabric of the school, and her contributions will forever be remembered and cherished.

As we mourn Jackie’s passing, we also celebrate her life and the profound impact she had on DGS and everyone fortunate enough to know her. Her affinity for Africa and her decision to give back in such a meaningful way have left an indelible mark on our hearts.

A lovely woman and a treasured friend has rested. Jackie, you will always be remembered for your great soul and your immeasurable contributions to DGS. Your legacy lives on in the lives you’ve touched and the future you’ve built for so many children.
