Destiny Garden Primary School, founded in May 2009, is a charity school providing children from ages 4 to 15 years old with a good education. It is located in Mtongwe, one of the poorest suburbs of the Likoni sub-county, Mombasa. The school has learners from Early Childhood Pre-primary 1 and pre-primary 2 classes to Primary level from Grade 1 to 6 under the new education system and class 8 under the old system being phased out.
Like many schools in Kenya, Destiny Garden School has been transitioning smoothly from the old 8-4-4 curriculum to the new Competency-based curriculum also known as CBC. The last class 8 pupils sit for their final exams from 30th October to early November 2023, thus marking the end of the KCPE exams nationally. They will then move to high school for the next four years and thereafter do their finals Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE), whereafter successful students will proceed to university or vocational training colleges.
Consequently, the Grade 6 pupils are also sitting their KPSEA examinations at the same time. They will be expected to join Grade 7, Junior Secondary school in any school of their choice. The new education system in Kenya lays emphasis on a learner’s unique talents and abilities rather than focusing wholly on academics and exam performances.
Destiny Garden School focuses on supporting the most vulnerable children in their society – orphans, and disadvantaged children. Many of the children come from homes managed by single parents or guardians, most of whom have no stable incomes. Its work is especially important since there is an increasing number of orphans and underprivileged children in this area. These vulnerable children need to be provided with basics to survive; including food, shelter, clothing, education, and access to proper health care.
The school is committed to educating the children in this area and nurturing them to their full potential.
The school motto is “Destined for excellence in life!”
