Janette’s story: Chrispinus
I had the privilege of being a volunteer at Destiny Garden School for 17 months during the period starting January 2013 to the end of January 2015. It was during this time that I met Chrispinus who was one of the first year 8 pupils at Destiny to graduate. He did very well in his end-of-year exams and really wanted to continue his education at High School. However, to do this he needed a sponsor and I was so happy to be that person for him.
The family live in Mtongwe near Destiny Garden School. Chrispinus is the firstborn of 7 children and lives with both his parents. His dad struggles to find regular work and wouldn’t be able to pay for his continued education after leaving Destiny at High school and through to university.
I received regular reports through his high school education and could see from these that he was working really hard achieving mostly A’s and B’s across the subjects on the curriculum which, to be honest, I never doubted.
I thought that might be the end of his education, but no, Chrispinus wanted to go to university and that’s what he did and I continued to support him. He started a four-year degree course at Tom Mboya University studying Criminology with IT and in December 2023 attained a Second-Class Upper, and received very good reports during his secondment as part of his degree.
Throughout his education, he has worked very hard and this is testimony to the start he had at Destiny Garden School, the hard work and commitment of the teachers and not least the vision of Jacob Muoga the school’s founder.
I have watched him grow from a teenager into a wonderful, caring, and clever young man who is a credit to his family who I know are very proud of him.
I wish him well in whatever he does in the future, hoping that he can secure a suitable position where he is able to put what he has learnt during his degree into practice. He will be an asset to any employer.
Well Done, Chris!
