Disabled Children to Join DGS – July 2023
Destiny Garden School has started a project to make the school suitable for disabled children in wheelchairs, allowing five children to join us who have this need. The School currently has 12 students with learning difficulties who require extra help, but none with physical disabilities. The new project will see the introduction of a disabled toilet and other aids to allow for wheelchairs to access the school. Disabled children tend to be overlooked in parts of Kenya, so we are very pleased to be able to offer these places.
The photo is of the disabled toilet which is nearly completed.
This has all been possible thanks to a large donation is from Aquinoe Learning Centre Charitable Trust, based in Oxfordshire, which supported a Kenyan school for children with disabilities. Unfortunately, the charity is having to close after 18 years. After an extensive search to find charities in the UK which were similar in order to donate their reserves, they narrowed it to four charities. In the end their trustees favoured Destiny Children, allowing us to make these changes to further support children with disabilities at Destiny Garden School.
