Val's Challenge for Destiny Garden School

Val completed her challenge on 20 July! She says:
Val Lear

"I had a wonderful swim on Saturday! There were at least 4,000 swimmers taking part in The Great Manchester Swim and I was one of them! There was a great atmosphere and the weather and water were perfect!

I managed a creditable time of 42:43 which I was very pleased with. I came 1651st  overall, 78th in my age group and 650 in my gender group (wow technology is brilliant - I only expected a rough time!) A time to beat next year!

Thank you so much for supporting me - although the challenge was the thing I think I have raised about £400 for Destiny Garden School which is wonderful".

Report on Val's Challenge

On 20 July 2013 committee member, Val Lear, is challenging herself to a sponsored swim to raise funds to help complete the building of classrooms 7 and 8 at DGS.

Please support her! Donations can be made in a number of ways; please see below.

Val says:

I decided last year that I needed lots of challenges before I reached a significant birthday (60 arggh!!). I have managed to do quite a few so far but this one is outstanding and certainly the hardest one for me yet.Val's Challenge

I have always wanted to have a go at open water swimming but had never been brave enough. Passing the Lowry Quays which advertised open water swimming I decided that was what I had to do! I attempted this with my Daughter-In-Law last year at the end of April (brr) and despite the numbing cold really enjoyed it!

This year I have entered the ‘Great Manchester Swim’! This will be full of swimmers who are used to swimming with groups of people in competitive triathlons so it should be interesting!

Mainly I am aiming to finish the mile of the race in a group swim, something I haven’t done before, but also I would like to raise vital money for ‘Destiny Children’ via sponsorship. Finishing the Destiny Garden School Primary School in Kenya would be a major achievement for the charity and would be another challenge off my list!

I hope I can count on your support!’
